About the Course

This course examines the ethical considerations of insurance credentialing, including how provider participation, data accuracy, and contracting decisions impact access to care, compliance, and continuity of treatment, including video instruction on crucial provider data and credentialing systems. Providers will learn step-by-step guidance for credentialing and contracting with payors, as well as how to maintain accurate provider data and avoid common mistakes that slow down approvals. This course comes with a bundle of resources, including recorded walkthroughs for CAQH and Medicare, credentialing checklists, documentation guides, contracting terms, and a payor spreadsheet with data for over 50 insurance companies and clearinghouses. 4 ethics CE credits. 

Course Instructor

Maureen Kane, LMHC is a licensed mental health counselor in private practice in Bellingham, Washington. She specializes in helping individuals navigate stress, anxiety, life transitions, illness, caregiving, trauma, and career challenges. Maureen is a Washington State approved clinical supervisor who provides guidance and mentorship to associate therapists working toward licensure and building sustainable private practices. She is also an EMDRIA Certified EMDR Therapist and EMDRIA Approved Consultant, supporting clinicians in developing advanced trauma treatment skills. She is the author of A Guide Back to You: A Workbook for Exploring Who You Are and Staying True to Yourself, a practical resource designed to help individuals reconnect with their values and personal direction. Before becoming a therapist, Maureen served as a director and manager in social service organizations and corporate programs focused on literacy, health care access, aging services, homeless youth, and disability support. Susie Rigas-Morozowich, LMSW, LCSW is a clinician, educator, and practice owner with more than twenty years of experience in psychotherapy and behavioral health systems. She is the Founder and CEO of TelebehavioralHealth.US, a multi state digital behavioral health practice, where she oversees clinical operations, insurance credentialing, and provider compliance across multiple payer networks. Through her work as a supervisor, educator, and mentor, Susie has helped clinicians navigate the operational and ethical challenges of practicing within insurance systems. Her teaching focuses on translating complex administrative and policy requirements into practical strategies that support ethical practice, client access to care, and sustainable mental health services.

Course Learning Objectives

Upon completing this course, participants will be able to: 1. Explain the ethical implications of insurance credentialing for mental health providers, particularly in terms of client access, continuity of care, and social justice. 2. Identify the required systems and documentation (e.g., CAQH, NPPES, Medicare PECOS) involved in the credentialing process and describe their role in ethical practice. 3. Evaluate the impact of contractual terms on client access and care equity, with a focus on obligations to underserved populations. 4. Describe the ethical responsibilities in maintaining up-to-date credentialing information, including compliance with Medicare Administrative Centers (MACs) and maintaining secure, accurate provider data.

ACE Provider Statement

TelebehavioralHealth.US, #2020, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: 6/28/2025-6/28/2028. Social workers completing this course receive 3.5 ethics continuing education credits. To earn CE credit, participants must complete all modules, pass the post-test with a score of 80% or higher, and submit a course evaluation. Learners can take the post-test as many times as needed to obtain a passing score.  Certificates of completion are issued automatically upon successful completion of all course requirements.
